Beloit College Mindset List of 2014
This list is actually kind of funny. There are several things that I do and don’t agree with. I think that the list is split about half and half in what I believe to be right and wrong. While the list is funny it also is shocking to see what people our age actually think.
A lot of the list goes through talking about people in the past is somewhat true but a lot of them are false. I know that Clint Eastwood played Dirty Harry but neither of those are what I remember. I probably don’t really follow a lot of these being a sort of history buff but I can see where a lot of these would be true.
I have known that Czechoslovakia is now the Czech Republic so I knew it existed. As for a lot of the things like Ice-T’s “Cop Killer,” I knew he had made the song but never had any interest in trying to get it but I’m sure at one point it was on an album. Already they have been proven wrong about the computer one because they make those little laptops without a CD drive.
I think that the list is pretty close to being right. While a lot of people my age probably don’t know even realize what some of these things are it just proves the lists point. I’m sure that there are people who read this and think that they nailed this generation. This list is kind of just a funny way of saying that times are changing.

Nice blog man. I like how you used the example relating to disk drives on computers. I would agree that many of these ideas on the list are false about our generation.

ReplyDeleteGood points, Kirk. I must admit that I did not know who Dirty Harry, thanks for clearing that up (: I agree with you on your topic. The list obviously has had research to back it up, therefore, even if we don't agree with some of the points, I am sure someone out there does. Nice blog.

ReplyDeleteI love it, you looked at this list from an outside perspective and not just what you knew. You understood how this is generalized to ALL of us and not just the cool kids from Iowa!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you a lot. There are plenty of points on here that I wasn't even sure what they were talking about and couldn't relate to at all.
ReplyDeleteSo going beyond this do you expect this list is made up by those of the older generations and they are making assumptions, or off surveys, or do you think they go into a detailed search for information and make this list. It is something that you may have to look at with even a bigger picture. Now all of us being from Iowa we are not in the big city environment so maybe we know or don't know some of these things. We need to acknowledge the differences in the world when we think about things like this and see how it can be different for everyone.
